1 MONTH WAIT ?
I wouldn’t dare suggest anyone to wait a whole entire month to wash their hair during their dreadlock journey unless that was already part of their routine before hand.
Washing doesn’t necessarily mean that your hair will unravel or loc less quickly. The most important thing is going about this process the healthy way.
If you don’t start off healthy then it will indeed catch up with you eventually and on top of that recovering from it will take a lot of time and patience. If you began to dread due to the time consuming hairstyles and managing, will you really have the patience to go through that all over again ?
MY HAIR WASHING ROUTINE
FIRST I used diluted hemp soap as a shampoo. Normally I use black soap, as well as baking soda sporadically ,but when I am all out I turn to hemp soap as an alternative.
I don’t believe in using products even if it’s for natural hair.
NOTE: The locafella loc and twist butter was the first product I used in over a year.
SECOND As a conditioner I used oil and water. It’s as simple as that. I’ve experimented with many different oils so far grapeseed oil is on my favorite list ,but olive oil and coconut oil is used sometimes whether combined together or used individually. Diluted apple cider vinegar is used to pair with the baking soda whenever I use it.
THIRD I never blowdry my hair. I either T-shirt dry it, or I just simply let it air dry.
After I have completed those steps I just moisturize my hair with a thin layer of shea butter and coconut oil.
